15 things you didn't know about Netflix's Selling Sunset and the cast (1)

Netflix's Selling Sunset is back for a fourth season, and boy are we excited about it. After season one became our new favourite show, seasons two and three saw us through the sh*tshow that was 2020. And finally! Season four is happening. Put 24th November in your calendars, sharpish.

The show's luxury Hollywood real estate, outrageously glam cast, and juicy drama make it an irresistibly easy watch. But as with any reality show there's so much we don't see, so we've rustled up a few Selling Sunset secrets to keep you going, when you've binge-watched all there is to see from the show itself.

There have been reports of Selling Sunset stars leaving the company

Despite Netflix confirming everyone would be back for season four, the last year has seen loads of rumours doing the rounds about people leaving The Oppenheim Group,

According to Christine Quinn, "Brett has left to start his own brokerage. It may be the battle of the brokerages! I think season four is going to be the juiciest season ever."

Chrishell, meanwhile, added that other people had left the brokerage - but she didn't reveal who. "I'm not going to sugar coat it," she said on Good Morning Britain in September 2020. "We're not all friends, we don't all get along. But we try to. Some people have left, the brokerage has split, if the cameras picked up now, there's a lot to pick up on."

In October 2020, it was also confirmed Davina Potratz had joined a rival firm. Davina announced she'll be moving to Douglas Elliman in Beverly Hills, revealing they offered her a package she couldn't turn down. "I’m really excited to be a part of Douglas Elliman and their very sophisticated and global new development division," she told People magazine.

Season four features new estate agent, Emma

Emma Hernan joins the gang at centre stage for Selling Sunset season four, and we're expecting fireworks. Emma has worked at The Oppenheim Group for over three years, owns several properties in both Boston and LA and her own business, Emma-Leigh & Co, a plant based food company.

Speaking about the new additions to the team, Chrishell told US Weekly, "Obviously, it definitely stirs the pot a little bit. You never know what people’s reactions are going to be," she said, "but I’ve really enjoyed working with them."

3

Vanessa Villela also joins the line-up for season four

Announcing the news in May 2021, Vanessa wrote, "Dreams do come true. It is with great honour and excitement that the official announcement was made today about me joining the beautiful and fun cast of one of the top Netflix shows, 'Selling Sunset' and the amazing team and company of Real Estate @theoppenheimgroup."

In October, she added, "Today marks 6 months since I joined the @theoppenheimgroup I can’t begin to tell you how proud I am to be a part of this family. I love and respect all the members of the team🤩 we all work so hard in representing in selling some of the best and properties in California."

Season four started filming in May 2021

Unsurprisingly, the coronavirus lockdown meant filming had to be put on hold. In fact, the Selling Sunset crew didn't get back to it until May 2021 - almost a year after season three dropped.

Heather shared a group shot from filming, writing, "Me & my GIRLS, back like we never left 😚💖 It’s been so long since we’ve all been able to be in the office together but we’re back and SO happy to be reunited!!! I may have missed the colourful memo today 😆 but everyone’s outfits were on point 😍

"Does anyone here watch Selling Sunset for the fashion? Or what’s your favourite part of the show: the fashion, the real estate, the drama (👀) or the cast?? or is it just all of the above!? 😆"

The Oppenheim group is actually made up of more agents

The Oppenheim Group agents Chrishell, Christine, Mary, Davina, Maya, Heather and Amanza all feature in the show, but there are actually more agents - including Nicole Young, Graham Stephan, Peter Cornell and Alice Kwan - working for Brett and Jason, who don't feature on camera.

Heather Rae Young is married to a fellow celebrity estate agent

While we got to see a fair amount of Christine's husband Christian in the third season (we watched their wedding!), we didn't see any of Heather's boyfriend Tarek El Moussa.

For those of you who don't recognise Tarek already, the estate agent starred in TV series Flip or Flop, which saw him renovate and sell homes alongside his now ex-wife Christine Anstead.

Heather and Tarek got together in 2019, and tied the knot in October 2021. Sharing a post after their wedding, Heather wrote, "Officially an El Moussa, officially a wife, and officially a step-mom. I was never the kind of girl who dreamt of her wedding growing up but I did always believe in soulmates and true love, and that was something I promised myself I would never give up on… and I never did.

"I encourage you ladies to never settle for less than you deserve. The person you’ve always wanted is out there and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I met my true soulmate and I feel like the luckiest girl in the world @therealtarekelmoussa ❤️"

Christine's friend went on a date with Christian first

The way Christine and Christian met was a hot topic on the second season, with it sparking a huge row at Mary's hen party after she said Christian had been seeing someone else when he got involved with Christine. Well, Christine recently cleared things up in an interview with Refinery 29.

"My girlfriend went on a date with him and she's like, ‘Hey, I went on a date with this guy who I really don't like," she said. "I know you're single; you may want to go out with him.’ So I went on a date with him after she did. The story played telephone down the line, and Mary didn't really understand what happened."

Chrishell wasn't part of The Oppenheim Group before Selling Suneset

As well as a career on reality TV, Chrishell is also an actor who has appeared in a long list of TV shows over the years, including Days of Our Lives.

She was the only agent who wasn't already working at The Oppenheim Group before filming started. Speaking about adding her to the cast, show co-creator Adam Divello previously told Variety: “[S]he really is a realtor and has a real estate license selling homes when we met her.

"I think we were lucky to get her, I think she adds something that is very unique to Los Angeles, and we’re doing a show about realtors in Los Angeles. The fact that we have one who’s an actress and happen[ed] to be married to an actor who’s on a very successful TV series is a plus."

That outrageously expensive house did eventually sell

Remember that stunning 20,000 square property in the Hollywood Hills? Of course you do. Well, after initially struggling to sell it, someone forked out $35.5 million on it back in December, making it a record-breaking sale for The Oppenheim Group.

Mary was walked down the aisle by son Austin

Mary and Romain Bennett tied the knot in October 2019 in a gorgeous, intimate ceremony held a one of her client's homes in Los Angeles, shown in season two. Mary's 22-year-old son Austin walked her down the aisle, and the couple invited 80 close friends and family to the ceremony.

11

Zelda and Niko are Mary and Jason's shared pets

Proving that it's totally possible to remain good friends (and colleagues) with an ex, Mary and Jason's relationship on Selling Sunset is something to behold.

"The truth is my three ex-girlfriends are three of the closest friends in my life right now, Mary being my best girl-friend," Jason, who has known Mary for 20 years, told the Express.

They also reportedly share resident Oppenheim dogs Zelda and Niko.

12

Mary *did* end up selling that house on her wedding day

After her original wedding venue fell through at the last minute, one of Mary's client's who had just listed their beautiful property with the bride-to-be offered it up as a venue.

On her wedding day, while getting her make-up done, Mary decided to show a potential buyer around - and he ended up purchasing it.

"I end up selling my wedding venue on my wedding day, which was amazing: I paused the wedding and sold it in the middle of getting ready," she told People magazine. "Everyone thought I was out of my mind, but I told the seller when he allowed me to book it for the wedding venue that I won't let the wedding planning or doing it there get in the way of selling it!"

Romain still hasn't forgiven Davina

Davina was the only agent who didn't get an invite to Mary and Romain's wedding after the model made it clear he didn't want her there. Despite months going by, Romain's still not ready to make peace with her.

"Romain still feels the same way. He's a very stubborn guy but he has a right to feel that way. For me, we co-exist. I've no - well, kind of hard feelings (laughs)," Mary revealed.

She added to the Express: "At the end of the day, we're co-workers and she doesn't really hang out with us. (It's) Jason, me, Brett, Romain, Amanza, Chrishell, we all hang out a lot."

14

The show is a little "amped up", according to Chrishell

Selling Sunset comes from the masterminds behind the shows Laguna Beach and The Hills. And like any reality show, there's always a fine line between what's real and what's scripted.

According to Chrishell, what you see is what you get - to an extent. TMZ quizzed her about a scene in the first season which showed a potential buyer flirting with married agent Maya.

"Obviously, there are certain things that are a little amped up for the show," Chrishell explained, “but honestly, I don’t really think that they asked him to do that. I mean, who would do that on purpose?"

15

Chrishell was previously engaged to Matthew Morrison

Before meeting Justin Hartley, Chrishell dated Glee star Matthew Morrison. The pair were briefly engaged before calling it quits in 2007. Chrishell started dating This Is Us star Justin in 2014 before they split in 2019, and the fall out from their divorce played out in season three.
