Spring Decorating on a Dime

Are you ready to update your decor for Spring? Are you drooling over all the new styles and ideas but worrying about the budget? Today, I’m sharing tips and Spring decorating ideas to refresh your home on a dime.

Let’s begin with the basics. Updating a neutral room is much easier than one filled with color and patterns. The farmhouse has neutral upholstery and a limited amount of simple colors, which allow for an easy update.

If you want to update with new colors and accessories, begin with your inspiration ideas. Here is my process.

  1. Take screenshots of ideas you like.
  2. Before shopping, take an inventory of items you already own that will work with the new colors.
  3. Consider moving items from other areas in your home to make them feel fresh and new.
  4. Can you update any of your decor with paint or a DIY transformation?
  5. Shop thrift stores for similar items. (read 10 Must-Know Thrifting Tips for Savvy Shopper if you need help)
  6. Shop for knock-off styles that look like the high-end version.
  7. Consider DIY projects, especially for seasonal decorations.
  8. Save money on the majority of your decor to allow for 1-2 splurge items.

So let’s check out the vintage decorating ideas for Spring on this year’s farmhouse tour.

Budget Entry Spring Decorating Ideas

The farmhouse entry is a small area beside the front door and is open to the living room. Therefore, it simply consists of a repurposed thrift store dresser, a deconstructed chair, and other thrifted finds.

Architectural salvage defines this area with unique vintage decorating ideas.

The entry is decorated for Easter with a DIY Egg Wreath, Moss Rabbit Topiary and old book page decoupage Easter Eggs.

A vintage stool holds old book, aa sap bucket filled with forced forsythia bloom,s and fresh-cut daffodils.

The garden theme entry includes an inexpensive print, a milk glass lamp, mixed brass candlesticks, and a rustic birdhouse all from thrift stores.

The combination of budget-friendly second-hand decor and Dollar Tree Easter Crafts brings the outdoors inside for an early Spring entry.

Living Room Decorating on a Budget

The early Spring living room has been refreshed with a new rug, throw pillows, and a DIY lamp. I’ll share a few of the decorating on a budget ideas I used to update this space.

I love how the texture of the neutral jute and wool rug really brightens the living room. The rug is from Homespice Decor and is handwoven and very durable.

My idea for Spring decorating the living room began with budget-friendly pillow updates. This year’s Pottery Barn Lookbook inspired me. However, the Pottery Barn pillow options were not budget-friendly, so I looked for alternatives.

I began searching through my current decor and found the two navy pillows and a throw blanket. I needed to add pops of color to achieve the more expensive Pottery Barn style.

One of the least expensive ways to refresh your room is replacing pillow covers with affordable options. I wanted a combination of blue and green garden-inspired pillow covers, and I love these inexpensive but stunning embroidered pillows from Amazon. The stunning green pillow cover was slightly more expensive but worth the splurge. I’ll share a link to all pillows in the Resources at the end of this post.

Spring Decorating: Coffee Table Centerpiece

This year, I opted for a simple Easter vignette on the coffee table. A preserved boxwood topiary and wreath continue the garden feel. The vignette is arranged at varying heights to allow the eye to travel from item to item.

The vignette is located in the center of the room, and the arrangement looks good from all directions.

Decorating on a Budget with DIY Projects

In addition to the DIY wreath and rabbit topiary located in the entry area, there are several handmade projects throughout the Spring tour.

First is the DIY Hobnail Inspired Lamp. When I saw a similar lamp from Ballard Designs, I immediately wanted this look for the living room. However, the over $400 price tag was a disappointment. You can see how I duplicated the Ballard Design high-end design for a fraction of the cost at the DIY Hobnail Lamp tutorial.

In addition, several decor items are thrift store finds with an inexpensive napkin decoupage update. The $2.00 thrifted bunny looks boutique-worthy with the blue and white decoupage and styled under a glass cloche.

The side table also includes a napkin decoupage clay pot and a DIY small grapevine topiary.

Vintage Decorating On The DIY Shabby Chic Mantel

Another recent addition to the living room is the faux fireplace and DIY Shabby Chic Mantel.

The vintage-inspired mantel is enhanced with the TV screen art and an architectural element above the TV.

Moss bunnies from previous seasonal decorations, more Easy DIY Topiaries and rattan storage box are combined with blue and white planters.

The affordable mantel decor brings the outdoors into the living room with subtle Spring and Easter touches.

Vintage Decorating With The Sofa Table

The sofa table also includes many vintage decorating accessories, such as the cloche wooden base, old books, and a small sifter. The napkin decoupaged blue and white bowl is filled with moss and decoupage Easter eggs. More napkin decoupage styrofoam balls fill the glass cloche and old sifter. Finally, the DIY repurposed silverware box holds a thrifted blue and white platter.

Farmhouse Kitchen Spring Decorating

The farmhouse kitchen is filled with vintage decorating ideas that are easy to duplicate. In addition, many DIY and thrift store items fill the space with curated charm.

The DIY kitchen island centerpiece consists of a wooden tray, woven fruit bowl, and lamb tureen that are inexpensive thrift store finds. To add a touch of the garden theme, moss balls combined with faux artichokes fill the woven bowl.

A DIY Copper Pot Hanger Rack holds a collection of vintage copper pots.

Vintage gas station lights and a repurposed screened door add to the vintage decorating ideas found in the modern farmhouse kitchen.

The kitchen island and multicolored rug add a splash of color to the otherwise neutral farmhouse kitchen. The original chippy paint on the pantry door inspired the island color.

In addition, the area above the kitchen cabinets is filled with vintage wooden dough that holds dried hydrangeas. You can see more about decorating above kitchen cabinets in this article.

Can you believe the daffodils are in bloom? I couldn’t resist filling my vintage ironstone pitchers with fresh blooms. They help to brighten the kitchen window sill.

We have been so happy with our concrete countertops and the brick backsplash. They add so much texture to the farmhouse kitchen.

In addition, the open kitchen shelving is perfectly styled with thrift stores and vintage decorating decor. The bright salad plates and dinner dishes are new and add just the perfect Spring touch. The open space adds modern farmhouse charm but with a curated vintage feel.

Vintage Decorating in the Dining Area

Spring Vintage decorating is easy in the curated dining area. The antique hutch and farmhouse dining table anchor the open living space and provide surfaces that are filled with many thrift store finds and DIY projects.

The hutch is filled with my collection of vintage ironstone. The top is decorated with a gathering basket and french cheese board for Spring vintage decorating. The basket holds moss greenery to pull the garden fill to this corner. In addition, the antique mixing bowl is filled with silver goblets to brighten this spot.

The table setting is a pared-down version of the Supper Club Chinoiserie Tablescape from last month. I left many of the elements but updated the table for a more neutral theme.

The woven thrift store basket wall and the DIY Decoupage Ginger Jar centerpiece remain. The wispy greenery and flowers fill the table with a casual garden feel.
