One trip to my local farmers market to get fresh strawberries for making this strawberry salsa, has changed my entire summer!

I’ve really been on a salsa kick lately. Specifically fruit salsa. I mean, who knew fruit and corn chips went so well together?! But it doesn’t stop there. Strawberry salsa goes with so many dishes! Read on to find out how to use this delicious condiment.

How To Pick The Best Strawberries For Strawberry Salsa

Look for bright red colors when choosing the freshest strawberries. They should be firm, a nice deep red, and they should have bright, green stems and/or leaves.

Can Strawberry Salsa Be Made Ahead?

It can be made one day in advance. You want it to be as fresh as possible before serving it.

Ideas For Using Strawberry Salsa

  • Serve this fruit-filled salsa with plant-based tacos for a summer meal that’s healthy, delicious, and easy to make.
  • Serve with fish tacos.
  • Spoon over salmon or cod.
  • Use as a condiment on burgers.
  • Spoon over a steak.
  • Enjoy over some chicken breasts
  • Eat with corn chips (yes, it’s delicious!)
  • Enjoy on a rice cracker with some cream cheese.
  • Mix into sour cream for serving with chips.
  • Spoon over a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  • Mix with clean mayonnaise for a delicious vegetable dip.
  • Serve over pork.
  • Serve with cinnamon tortilla chips. Cinnamon chips are amazing with this! (But leave out the cilantro if you opt for the cinnamon.)

Recipe Variations

  • You can use different ripe berries like raspberries to mix things up a bit.
  • Add chopped oranges.
  • Add chopped nectarines
  • Use lime juice instead of lemon.
  • Try basil or another fresh herb like fresh mint or parsley instead of cilantro. Any fresh herbs you enjoy with salsa will work here too.
  • Add some lemon zest or lime zest to strengthen those flavors.
  • Add a small drizzle of honey if your strawberries aren’t very sweet.
  • Add some finely chopped red bell peppers.

About The Ingredients

(Print recipe from recipe card below)

Strawberries – Choose the brightest and sweetest strawberries you can find.

Red onion – While you can use yellow or white onions, the sweetness of red onions plays off the strawberries far better than any other onion.

Jalapeño pepper – The amount called for is totally adjustable. Add more or less to increase or decrease the spice level.

Lemon juice – Fresh lemon juice is best, but in a pinch, bottled will work too.

Fresh cilantro – While you don’t have to use cilantro (I know many people hate it), I highly recommend all those that like cilantro, use it here.

How Long Does Strawberry Salsa Last?

In my experience, this will last for 3 to 4 days, maximum. Once the flavors start to change, it’s time to throw it out.
